Deion Sanders can’t pinpoint the exact date when he hit rock bottom, but he remembers feeling lonely in a bed with multiple female partners.
“Rock bottom for me was laying between two and three women at a time, but you get up unsatisfied. Rock bottom for me … yes, I was bleeding,” the Hall of Famer recently said on Paula Faris’ “Journeys of Faith” podcast.
“Laying right beside the person who said they love you, but she didn’t even know you was in pain. That was rock bottom for me,” the 51-year-old said.
Sanders, who announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Tracey Edmonds in February, recalled how his calls for help were seemingly ignored as people only saw his “Prime Time” persona.
“I was crying out to people. But, they couldn’t hear you because they saw Prime. They saw my character. The character I created, not the character of a man. They saw the character I created — the was Prime,” Sanders said.
Sanders, whose storied career included stops with the 49ers, Cowboys, Falcons, and Ravens, said he wanted to end it all, driving his vehicle off the road and falling 40 feet off a cliff.
“I opened my eyes and I was still alive,” he said.
Sanders previously opened up about his troubling times in his memoir, “Power, Money and s*x: How Success Almost Ruined My Life.”
