Discharge Transportation Coordinator MEDCOM
Responsible for communicating and coordinating the movement of patients to and from University of Virginia Health using various resources such as ambulances, wheelchair vans, taxis, buses, and other means of transportation. Responsible for communicating with various internal and external customers involved with patient movement and medical center operations.

Work requires detailed knowledge of regional geography, familiarity with insurance coverages, and application and interpretation of organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

In this essential role, youll coordinate safe, timely transportation using ambulances, vans, taxis, and moreensuring every patient journey supports quality care.

What Youll Do:

  • Coordinate Transport: Manage logistics across multiple transport modes.
  • Communicate Clearly: Interface with internal teams, external agencies, and families.
  • Solve & Support: Investigate complaints, process invoices, and assist with policy improvements.
  • Train & Track: Mentor peers and monitor transport volumes to improve operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Experience: relevant experience
  • Licensure/Certifications: None

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Experience: 2 years of relevant healthcare experience
  • Licensure/Certifications: None

Physical Demands Job requires sitting for prolonged periods and repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs.

Onboarding Requirements

Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

The starting base rate for this role is $20.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
