SUMMARY:Functioning under moderate supervision, the Clinical Nurse II is, at minimum, a competent practitioner.This level clinician utilizes the nursing process in providing patient care and patient/family teaching. The practitioner organizes and implements safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care in controlled settings with predictable outcomes. Patients served may include neonate through adult-geriatric.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:This job has supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the position, the candidate must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland; successful completion of required hospital, nursing and unit orientation, including but not limited to BCLS certification and medication certification required.Maintains criteria for and has demonstrated proficiency at the Clinical Nurse I level and meets eligibility requirements for Clinical Nurse II. ACLS required (PACU, ICCU, ED), NALS required (Obstetrical-Nursery) or eligible for completion of course within six (6) months from date in position. Certification in specialty is preferred. Telemetry Nurse must pass a basic arrhythmia exam and have ability to recognize critical rhythms and seek intervention.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland and BCLS certification. ACLS required (PACU, ICCU, ED), NALS required (Obstetrical-Nursery) or eligible for completion of course within six (6) months from date in position.Certification in specialty is preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret physicians orders and other written communication methods of the health care team is essential. Ability to respond to customer inquiries or to those of other members of the health care team must be present.The incumbent must demonstrate an ability to read and interpret age-specific data regarding patient conditions. He/she must demonstrate spoken English ability to communicate patient and family education in an age appropriate context.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to work with mathematical concepts in the preparation of medications, intravenous drips and other therapeutic interventions.

REASONING ABILITY:Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts regarding the patient/family condition, and to prioritize the needs of the patient and family.
